Question to GFX.
To implement the automation of tournaments, should I specify the maps? If yes, what do I put in "machine name"?

Question to all.
Since I do not see a real interest in tournaments so far and I read a couple of lines against round robin and swiss tournament, for me it is ok to change the structure (it would be a bit less solid as a proof, that's it).
What structure do you prefer? Double elimination? (Single elimination no, it is out)
Seeding will be according to the average elo (eyeballed) in the last days of activity of a player.

Or would you be willing to go with swiss system/round robin again?

Automation should work independently of the map list.
For the map list to be taken into account, you have to fill the map list.
Machine names are automatically generated by toornament from the plain name you enter.
If you enter the correct map name, it should generate the correct machine name (correct meaning understandable by my sync system).
For instance, entering "Circle of Death" will generate "circle_of_death".
You don't need to enter the creator name for community maps.

Ok. Damn me I forgot to enable the registrations. So now people can join!


ALL the multiplayer matches available for private games (I wonder why the all the others available in the test arena are not available for private games, well, I guess it can change in the future) will be used. So the more the maps, the more a "generic ai" would win. Especially for maps out of the ranked games pool (that so far has 8 maps if I remember correctly) that do not get optimized, the generic AI will show its strength.

In general more maps: more work (not good for ranked matches, more than 6-8 is too overwhelming), therefore the best generic AI could win because limits the work of the developer and it is valid mostly everywhere.

once again I ask:

which structure would you prefer?

My preference, to establish the best player with less randomness, is: swiss tournament, round robin but we can also say "meh" and do double elimination (with brackets if needed).

more often what? Single elimination for the moment is out (I do not really like it, it is too random). Double it is a bit better.

So for the moment and due to other comments I would keep double elimination unless there are other people that prefer swiss/round robin (there is another structure but I have to check)

Ah that. Well actually a swiss system is not longer than a single/double elimination. What is longer is round robin.

16 players in single elimination:
16, 8, 4, 2, 1 -> 4 matches

16 players in swiss tournament
4 matches ( log_2(no_players) ), if scores are too similar, 5. So just one more. (plus it is very close to double elimination, just no double matches)

16 players double elimination
16 W, 8W - 8L, 4W - 8L, 2W - 4L, W waits - 4L, W waits 2L, W waits 2L, Final, Double final -> 9 matches

16 players round robin
15 matches. The advantage is that one can deploy all of them from the start.

Swiss is actually the best one imo. Quick and effective.

I liked the system from the last official tournament. You get a second chance but no fourth chance

Ok so for the moment is double elimination until other people say something else.

PS: with swiss/round robin is not really true that you get a fourth chance. At the first loss you are under and the opponent has to lose too to recover.

Sry i cant come. My main account do not have high elo AIand my second account do not have toornament account (or maybe i can switch the in game name in the parameter of toornament site)

9.5 will feature the list of tournaments, highlighting available ones.
It should increase visibility and speed up the registration phase.

Started (waiting too much makes no sense if we do often several tournaments)

remember ALL the available maps for private matches needs to be played!

Also: gfx , for private matches could we vote to include also other maps that are already present in the test arena?
