Sys as a profession. + 1C Programmer + VBA/VBS + Batch.
Gladiabots itself is not hard. The hard part is to create complex AI reacting to situation on a field using only IF and Procedures without cycles, event-triggers (attacked, died, on_execute, etc.), variables and return functions.

Indeed, if it would be a fully featured language then the creativity or hard work would be less rewarded. It is like saying that geometry on the plane is not difficult, but if you have only compass and straight edge, it is. That's the fun.

Violin teacher and English major here....but twenty-five years ago I was a systems analyst/programmer, and I lived through the punchcard/assembly/BASIC/Fortran years, when dealing with the kind of restrictions Gladiabots provides was commonplace.

It's been a long time since I was programming, though!

I'm a professional programmer (C,C++, C#, .NET, Python and others).
If you know Magic The Gathering Card Game, I'm the creator of MAGMA MAGIC MACHINE, one of the few sw with AI for that game. Now I'm a computer science teacher and I'd like to use Gladiabots for teaching coding.

Hi all,

I'm an IT guy specialized in CAD softwares, who was a developer lives ago but is now more of a scripter, admin and support type...

And as for games, I write a TC from open-source Space-Opera game NAEV, named Stars of Call, so it's also mainly scripting (Lua) and data (XML), with a few C lines from time to time to contribute to the NAEV engine.

So I find Gladiabots just awesome ^-^ I've already seen games attempting that goal of a fun and easy AI writing, but this one instantly got my attention !

Well, I already am at Master League :-]

The problem is that I loose A LOT. Recently I have changed from a "Universal" AI to a "Specific Scenario" AI. Maybe that way I wont loose too much.

Something I'm really not happy about is that you get to fight against players with Snipers when you are barely lvl 3-4. It's super unfair
(I'm close to be lvl 6. The revenge is coming )

Yes the leveling problem is know but the matchmaking is going to fix it, just wait until things settle. Moreover who has sniper and is in League 5 does not really use it properly.

For the master league, unfortunately the skilled players are not all active at once so the new entries normally gets stomped. Maybe trying a grand master league would not be bad. Just it will extend the waiting time due to lower active population.

Moreover being a programmer is not crucial. One has to like logic, that's it.

I write code for a job, because I love it. I can't believe I get paid to do something I'd do for free. This game scratches some itches I didn't know there were there. Some programming games are uber technical and only for diehard geeks. This one has a pretty low cost of entry (time and technical experience) for non-programming types, and is instantly fun for programming types. If I won the lottery and found myself with stupid money to invest with, I'd be the noisy, silent partner for this project. 8-)

I've never programmed anything except gladiabots, but I've thought about it. I do some client support for developers, though I'm not a developer myself ... go figure
