Another day, another (random) map

The idea here is to have a different (randomly generated) map every day.
It could improve retention by giving players a reason to come back the next day.
It would offer a fix challenge for everyone during 24h, the opportunity to express a particular strategy and then renew it after that.
Thoughts?

I like the idea since my 39 node ai is used for all maps and bots. Within the 39 nodes I have some differentiation for bot classes.

Sounds great. With that one you get hooked to come back every day to check what kind of map is the map of the day.

then you have people (read on discord) that say "I have no chance to fix my ai since the map changed".

You cannot make everyone happy. Anyway, why not. A different map each day is not bad, in the big picture is effectively a case of random maps.

Although in a day one can develop not much for a single map (especially if one is not always at home).

"Map of The Day" sounds interesting, but I'm not sure if beginners will like this idea. Look at all the multiplayer first person shooters, they have a set of well known maps and it works perfectly. I think you should keep known set of maps and treat Map of The Day as a bonus or (exclusively) switch to totally random maps that change in every match.

What do you mean?

You say you want to move to randomly generated maps. This is a step in that direction.

That's too much I think. One a day is ok because the possibility that people optimize for it in a day is very low.

generic AIs would be really rewarded.

But what about the 5 other maps ? Or we use a turnover system, but then every map lasts 6 days, and people can optimize their AI on it.

I like the idea of a turnover system. A new map everyday, and one drops off the roster, I think a map should last at most 1 week, and random selection between the current maps on the roster. Like maybe keep a map 7 days, then drop it off, and keep like 3 maps always from maybe the current maps (maybe some with more than 4 bots, just for a change), so there is always 10 maps in the selection. Just an idea.

Uh? I was thinking about one map per day, always the same.

Moreover 6 days are not enough too. I mean yes, you can build a base decorator but a good generic AI will have the upper hand nevertheless.

Heck see SYP/MP/7W/split team, it is 1 year old or more, and still people use generic AIs on them aside from short lived decorators.

Only those without experience will spent time building specialized maps for a map that last 6 days (or even 30).

What is the point against a random map every time I queue?

Why make a feature that nobody asked for?

Please make a question asking if players prefer a single random map every day or purely random maps every time they queue.

I would prefer the daily maps. All random is fine too but daily would be more fun because you can make mini decorators.

So I could start in alpha 11 by using current static maps, picking one in particular each day.
I could also add small variations to the maps and increase the overall pool size.

I wouldn't mind a completely unfamiliar map right from the beginning.
