It would be better to stay on Toornament.
I'm working on a full integration of their API.
If everything goes as planned I should be able to automatically generate matches for unofficial tournaments too.

That would be great. Currently one could use his favorite map, when creating a private match.

I will make serious tournaments in August I hope that the site is flexible enough (single round robin , plus timeout, best of X for every match ) otherwise I guess I'll need to do it via forum like in the old days

Pier announced one or two days ago at telegram that he will organize the tournaments. Today he's kind of offline but I'm sure he still has a concept.

And kanishka, I just joined your tournament. Fully generic sounds like fun

To Kanishka: I'm in. :) (Though it's not my play style to use a generic AI...)

Yes I will but once read that GFX wants to use a system. I do not know. I have quite an experience in organizing tournaments (especially when people do not show up) and so far the best way to handle this was through forum posts.

The idea will be:

- single round robin (why not knockout? Because everyone counts, and because http://pier4r.wikidot.com/pierworks:art ... formatcomp )
- every match, either best of 3 - but then we need to decide the maps where to play on (this makes things more bureocratic), or we play all the maps against every opponent and in case of tie, the actual leaderboard rank is the tie break.
- recurring, like unavoidable tournaments but "willful partecipation"

Ok checked the site. Not bad, it has even the swiss system! I am not sure if I can setup one or I wait until the one from kaniskha finishes.

I know of a system used in games of the smash series, but I think that system is made for an odd number of maps. Basically it is, for round 1: rock-paper-scissors. The winner starts the banning, which goes in 1-2-1 order for 5 stages, or 1-2-2-1 for 7 stages or etc.
For round 2 and later: winner of the last game bans x number of stages, loser picks, loser can't pick a stage they themselves won on

Pretty sure round robins can in fact handle ties. Why not allow them?

That reminds me, are you continuing the unavoidable tournaments. Because imo, you should (but only track ranked matches)

I will continue the unavoidable tournaments of course. There is no substitution to get hard summaries of ranked matches, for the moment.

About ranked/unranked I'm not sure. If I consider unranked as test matches yes, I should put them aside, but then the private games may count as "serious" games. I have to check if those are reported in the db dumps.

Well for me it is ok because we have them linked here, but it will take more for gladiabots to build an history on their site. (specifically, another week)

So I add some experience: deploying against one person (while have 1-2 days for the deployment) is not so tedious, even choosing 8 maps. It takes likely 5 minutes full. That's nothing.

The tedious part is to remember exactly the name of the opponent. So a drop down list with the used valid names would be good. The idea is: instead of transfer all the possible valid names to the client, the player still has to put once a valid name. Once validated the name goes in the list of matched opponent in the client installation (until the next reinstall) so the player can reuse it.

How to search in the list? While typing, a normal matching algorithm.
