The tournament system

We'll be using the Toornament website to organise our tournaments.
Please register with the same player name as the one you use in Gladiabots, it will be much easier for everyone.
There will be official and unofficial tournaments.

Official tournaments will be created by me.
Matches will be generated (manually first, automatically in a later update) and appear in the new "Tournament" tab of the career screen.
Here's a website listing the official tournaments:
http://tournaments.gladiabots.com

Unofficial tournaments can be created by any member of the community.
They will be fought using private matches.

PS: you need Alpha 9 or above to play tournaments!

You mean map selection?
It will be random on each match by default but we could have map specific tournaments.

I mean bracket seeding. If this is a bracket and not a round robin, then the seeding of the players (or rather, who everyone plays against and when) could definitely have an effect on the results. Although map selection probably is a more important topic to talk about...

Oh! It will be randomized too, let's start simple ;)

Depending on how much work it is, you could use tournaments based on the community maps (one tournament for each map). That way we could make an informed decision on which is best.

Maybe for the top three voted for?

I think you have to set a structure.

I used what they call playoffs for the first tournament.
But be creative!
Double bracket elimination, round robin, etc.
Search on Wikipedia for details on the different models.

I already have a basic model in place. Waiting for players. How do I enforce rules, see the matches, etc.?

Are we limited to toornament.com for all tournaments, or are we allowed to use something like challonge.com if we want?

You can specify the rules in the tournament description but there's no technical link with the game.

You have to organize with the players so they create their private matches and report their results using the website.

I'll add the replay ID in the game interface so they can report it too.

It would be better to stay on Toornament.
I'm working on a full integration of their API.
If everything goes as planned I should be able to automatically generate matches for unofficial tournaments too.
