Comments on connector blocks

Hi all,

To help player remembering the use of some branches of the IA tree, it would be nice to have the opportunity to write comments (like developpers write comments in their code).

I think connector blocks would be perfect for this role as they don't implement a tooltip yet.

It is already in the roadmap, I think.

IMO it would be better to have a standalone comment element.

I feel like I'm necroing this thread, but I greatly dislike making multiple threads on one topic. Do we have any more updates on this topic? Last update I can find is it being moved up in priority back in January.

I know there is less need of this feature for most users since sub-AI became available, but I am not most people. I find it difficult to keep track of complex scripts even with nesting names scripts. I much prefer to have a few sentences of notes to keep my thoughts straight rather than short 1-3 word descriptions.

The lack of this feature is one one the reasons I haven't touched this game for the last few months to be honest. I just can't keep track of my own AI's without a separate sheet of notes.

same here. For the moment it is part of the ai challenge. Also I feel some really huge ais that can become even bigger and kill my tablet, so maybe the lack of comments keeps everything still feasible.

How do you see it?
Comment always visible or only on tooltip?

I see it like with pdf/excel. A little '*' (or 'c') near a node or connector. if you click the node or connector it shows the description of the node/connector (like in the debug mode) plus the comment.

To edit it, add an additional edit part to the node "comment".
At first it may be like an SMS short instead of a poem. Then it can get bigger.

The point being: I don't need to see comments always, but from time to time to remember me why things are the way they are.

I like the idea of textboxes.

On my opinion, comments only on tooltip for nodes would be just fine. Editable text field in node editor and showing text entered there on top of node's tooltip would work.

How about both:
  1. Textboxes that are always visible. For stuff that I would otherwise have to write down on paper like usage of tags.
  2. Annotations on connectors that are only visible on popup.
If the textbox could also act as a connector we had the best of both approaches. :)
