Avoiding leaving the season running too long (unless something is planned).
Then adjusting the master upper threshold and the GM lower threshold based on the 25th player score in season 1 (active or inactive).

I'll reset season once Beta 2 is released.
RC coming this week.

Ok.

What about league thresholds adjustments?

My idea was to aim for decreasing player counts based on current scores:

Code: Select all

            Season 1                       Season 2
Demo    Promo   Count          Demo    Promo   Count
Bronze      none    1000    50        >    none    1000    50
Silver      950     1100    350       >    950     1050    200
Gold        1050    1250    150       >    1000    1150    150
Platinum    1200    1400    50        >    1100    1250    100
Diamond     1350    1600    20        >    1200    1400    75
Master      1550    1800    10        >    1350    1950    50
Grandmaster 1750    none    50        >    1900    none    25

But the gap between Master and Grandmaster is pretty huge.

I think it is ok. (why is the promotion for master smaller than the demotion from GM?)

Because since the creation of grandmaster (summer 2017), master league was often the smaller league because one covers the gap quite quickly. Instead it should give an idea of raising difficulty (according to what I read around. My idea would be: having only one league with kfactor 20).

Otherwise grandmaster mostly pick all the players. The grandmaster range is also huge at the moment. 1750 to 2900, over 1150 points. So I think using thresholds based on the count of the active/inactive players is reasonable.

One can still fix it for season 3 if needed.

Update: just noticed that you made the leagues before master super small. Why? Still based on the distribution of players? (I would suggest to count also the inactive players or at least the distribution of the ghosts)

Another smoother proposition:

Code: Select all

            Season 1                       Season 2
Demo    Promo   Count          Demo    Promo   Count
Bronze      none    1000    50        >    none    1000    50
Silver      950     1100    350       >    950     1100    300
Gold        1050    1250    150       >    1050    1200    125
Platinum    1200    1400    50        >    1150    1400    100
Diamond     1350    1600    20        >    1350    1700    30
Master      1550    1800    10        >    1650    2100    30
Grandmaster 1750    none    50        >    2050    none    20

You mean small score gaps?
It's based on target player count, yes.
Why do you want to count inactive and ghosts?

I think all players who played previous season should count as active.
Also you could introduce like Legend league somewhere at 2800 to give top players additional goal.

Why are you talking about specific number of players in each league? Shouldn't it be like: 1% in legend, 3% in GM, 6% in master, 10% in diamond, 15% in platinum, 21% in gold, 28% in silver, 16% in bronze.

Because the ghosts represent the difficulty. Say that is a "low period" (we had some of those) and in master or grandmaster there are only 5 players. It doesn't mean that it is easy to climb the scores because there may be really good ghosts as opponents.

So yes, as elvenmonkey said, I would at least consider the scores of all the players that participated in season 1 . Those players left ghosts around and because those are around opposing every player in their score range.

Anyway I would also say that this is the cherry on top. The proposed versions are already better than the existing situation. As usual let's improve, although a bit, rather than being bogged down in endless discussion that do not help to get anything done.

Of the two subdivisions that you proposed, I like more the second, where the score ranges for the leagues are not so small. The one with master up to 2100.

So far the new thresholds are holding pretty well.
Master is not that easy to pass for most new players.

That's a point for "base your thresholds on previous experiences". We will see how it evolves.

After some more days, still pretty good behavior of the new matchmaking, leagues and thresholds.
